Development of a Patient-Centric Breastfeeding Education Tool for Mothers with IBD

We are developing an educational tool to support breastfeeding for mothers with inflammatory bowel disease, built from the insights of both patients and the clinicians who care for them. Through one-on-one interviews with mothers and with healthcare providers across disciplines, we aim to understand better the questions, challenges, and information gaps surrounding breastfeeding while on IBD therapy. By integrating lived experience with clinical expertise, this project will help create a clear, practical resource that improves counselling and supports families in making confident, informed decisions. Interviews are ongoing through 2025 and 2026, with prototype development and review planned for the summer of 2026. If you are a clinician interested in contributing to this project or learning more about upcoming phases, please contact Varun Srikanth (varun.srikanth@sinaihealth.ca).

Exploring Clinician Perceptions of IBD and Fertility: An Anonymous Survey Study

We are conducting a study to understand how clinicians across specialties approach fertility care for patients with inflammatory bowel disease. We are inviting family physicians, gastroenterologists, and obstetrician-gynecologists to share their experiences through an anonymous survey. We aim to identify the questions, uncertainties, and practice patterns that shape counselling and decision-making in real clinical settings. Insights from this work will help us understand where additional guidance or education may be needed, and ultimately strengthen the support patients receive when planning for pregnancy. The survey takes approximately 7-10 minutes to complete and can be accessed here.
